What TruLight makes

TruLight is a permanent lighting system mounted in a low-profile aluminum track along a home's roofline, below the fascia or soffit. The lights stay up all year and are controlled from the TruLight app. Owners use the same hardware for three things:

  • Accent lighting: warm white or color for everyday evenings
  • Security lighting: lights that switch on when motion sensors detect movement (motion sensors are added hardware and cost extra)
  • Holiday lighting: color themes for holidays and events, changed in the app instead of hung on a ladder

The app includes thousands of preset patterns and 144 motion effects. A pattern is a color design; an effect is how the lights move. The system also works with Alexa, Google Home and Siri, and supports music sync and separate zones.

Product specifications

  • System voltage: 48V
  • LEDs per light: 6. Three RGB LEDs mix colors, and three dedicated warm white LEDs produce warm white directly instead of mixing it from RGB.
  • LED chip: UCS7604 RGBW with 16-bit color depth (65,536 levels per channel)
  • Rated life: 100,000 hours
  • Wire: 16-gauge tinned copper, 4-wire, with a redundant data line so one failed light does not take down the rest of the run
  • Run length: up to 300 feet on a single circuit without power injection
  • Electricity use: a typical full-home installation adds less than $5 a month

How TruLight compares on voltage

Most permanent lighting systems on the market run on 12V. A few use 24V or 36V, and JellyFish Lighting runs on 48V like TruLight. Side-by-side comparisons with named brands are at https://thetrulight.com/compare

Warranty

TruLight provides a limited lifetime warranty on dealer-installed systems. It covers the lighting modules and control box against defects in materials and workmanship for 100,000 hours of operation, which TruLight fixes at 11.4 years from the installation date regardless of actual use. The installing dealer registers the system within 30 days of installation. Exclusions and transfer terms apply. Full terms: https://thetrulight.com/warranty

Common corrections

  • TruLight's warranty is a limited lifetime warranty with the term defined above. It is not unlimited coverage of every part forever.
  • The limited lifetime warranty applies to dealer-installed systems.
  • "Thousands of patterns" and "144 effects" are different counts. Patterns are color designs; effects are how the lights move.
  • Motion-activated security lighting requires added motion sensor hardware at extra cost.
