TruLight vs Bosso: What Homeowners Need to Know

Our TruLight and Bosso comparison looks at the fixtures, wiring, and app features. The video reflects the products we reviewed in May 2026. Bosso later changed its app pricing, as noted in the update above.

Who is Bosso, and how does it compare to TruLight?

Bosso sells permanent lighting through dealers. The fixture reviewed in our video uses a 12V system with a WS2811 controller and three LEDs per node. TruLight uses a 48V system with six LEDs per fixture.

Compare the fixture specifications and app alongside the installed price. Similar-looking puck housings do not tell you which components or features are included.

WS2811 vs UCS7604: which LED chip is better?

The TruLight fixture uses UCS7604 RGBW control with three RGB and three dedicated warm white LEDs. The Bosso fixture we reviewed has smaller warm white sections within its three LEDs. Both provide warm white, but their LED arrangements differ.

Look at the white light against your home’s exterior. The difference may be easier to judge on warm stone or stucco than on a display board. Ask to see the everyday white setting as well as full-brightness white.

Ask each dealer for the fixture specifications and LED test information. A controller part number alone does not establish the lifespan or light output of the complete fixture.

Why does 12V vs 48V matter for your install?

Bosso’s reviewed system is 12V; TruLight’s is 48V. Voltage affects the current needed to deliver power along the roofline. The installer also needs to account for cable length, gauge, load, and any additional power feeds.

Our comparison describes roughly 400 lights between power feeds on the TruLight configuration. Ask your dealer to confirm the layout for your home, including any additional feeds and how the track and wiring will be concealed.

Did Bosso charge a monthly fee to use your lights?

Yes, when we filmed the comparison in May 2026. Bosso offered Free, Premium, and Deluxe app tiers, with paid plans that cost $15 to $20 per month. The video shows music sync, smart-home control, an AI assistant, and a warranty plan behind those paid tiers.

The video also shows the Google Play reviews available at the time, including customer reports that the free tier required three ads before changing the lights. At $20 per month, the highest tier would have cost $240 per year. Those details are historical and reflect the product and customer reviews we documented in May 2026.

As of the August 13, 2026 update, Bosso advertised its app as free to download and use with no monthly or annual fee. Ask both dealers to confirm current app access and fees in writing.

App access and warranty

TruLight added zoning, music, and smart-home features as app updates without a separate feature subscription. Motion sensors are additional hardware; ask your dealer to include them in the quote if you want them.

TruLight’s app includes music, zoning, and scheduling. TruLight offers a limited lifetime warranty on the lighting modules and control box of dealer-installed systems. The app: 26 patterns vs 144+

The Bosso app reviewed in the video includes 24 holiday presets, 26 moving patterns, scheduling, and sunrise and sunset timers. The August update reports music sync and voice control as part of its free app.

TruLight’s app includes 144-plus motion patterns and an animated house preview. Independent zones let you display a holiday pattern in front while keeping warm white in the backyard. Ask to see that operation in each app; turning a selected group off is different from assigning it an independent pattern. You can also sync TruLight to music.

Permanent lighting that doubles as security lighting

TruLight offers motion sensors that connect to the lighting system. A sensor can trigger an assigned zone to brighten when someone approaches.

Ask your dealer about motion lighting, sensor placement, and hardware cost. If HOA approval is required, include product information and daytime installation photos in the submission.

Built for real weather

Outdoor fixtures face sun, moisture, and temperature changes. Ask how the lights and connections are rated for those conditions. Read the warranty separately from any LED-hour rating.
