TruLight vs JellyFish Lighting: An In-Depth Comparison
We compared TruLight and JellyFish fixtures on the same bench for our April 2026 video. Both reviewed systems use 48V power, 16-gauge four-wire cable, and aluminum track. The comparison focuses on white light, controls, and app features. Watch the full video with timestamps.
How TruLight and JellyFish compare
TruLight’s reviewed fixture has six LEDs, including three dedicated warm white LEDs. JellyFish’s has three RGB LEDs. The comparison also covers controller pricing, music hardware, patterns, and motion-sensor options.
The specifications and prices below reflect the April 2026 comparison. Ask each dealer to confirm the current equipment and software included in the quote.
Does JellyFish have true white light?
The JellyFish fixture in this comparison uses RGB LEDs to mix white. It does not have a separate warm white channel. In the demonstrated setting, that white has a cooler tint than the TruLight warm white.
"That is not a blue color. We're not trying to make it blue. That is their white."
The video includes customer-supplied photos of the same house with JellyFish and then TruLight lighting. Compare the white against the exterior materials as well as the brightness.
Which LED chip is better: Omega or UCS7604?
The JellyFish fixture uses an Omega controller, described in the comparison as an 8-bit RGB design. TruLight uses UCS7604 RGBW control with 16-bit color depth.
Eight-bit control provides 256 levels per channel; 16-bit control provides 65,536. TruLight also has a dedicated warm white channel. Ask to see dimming and color changes on each complete system, since the controller specification is only part of the result.
Request the fixture and controller specifications directly from the dealer. Search results about chip names are not a substitute for documentation for the product being installed.

Why does JellyFish cost more for the same voltage?
In the April comparison, JellyFish’s indoor controller was quoted at $750 and the outdoor version at $850. The separate Music Box was $300, with about $150 in installation labor discussed in the video.
Those figures put the discussed controller-and-music configuration around $1,200 to $1,300. They are comparison figures from the video, not a current quote for your home.
The TruLight controller was quoted at about $450 to $550 with music sync included. Confirm the controller model and installation charges in each quote.
"Right there, just for the control box to be on your house with music, you're paying $1,300 to have it installed."

How does music sync actually work?
JellyFish released music sync in late 2025 or early 2026 as a $300 add-on box. It uses either a microphone to pick up ambient sound or an audio jack to plug directly into a sound system. The lights then react to the detected beat. They have about 7 music-specific patterns.
TruLight’s music manager supports uploaded tracks, and the controller includes music sync. It also supports microphone input. Try both systems with the same track to compare their response and available effects.
Motion-sensor options and HOA submissions
TruLight includes dedicated motion sensor modules that tie directly into the lighting system. When motion triggers a sensor, an assigned zone of lights turns on. JellyFish integrates with Alexa, Google, and Ring doorbells, but does not have dedicated motion sensor hardware built into the lighting system in the same way.
Ask the dealer to show which zones a sensor can trigger. If you need HOA approval, provide the board with the proposed design and equipment details rather than assuming motion functionality guarantees approval. See our motion-lighting guide.
Independent zones in the two apps
Independent zoning lets sections display separate patterns or colors at the same time. Ask for a demonstration of that operation, rather than relying on the word “zoning” in a brochure.
Both reviewed systems offer zoning. TruLight also demonstrates pattern-direction controls and sensor assignments by zone. Compare the specific functions you want to use.
Build quality and LED ratings
Both reviewed fixtures mount in aluminum track and use 16-gauge four-wire connections. Compare the fit, sealing, and daytime appearance on a finished installation.
The table reports LED-hour figures discussed in the video. Those figures do not establish the lifespan of the entire fixture or system. Ask for the underlying test information and read the written warranty.

Using the app day to day
JellyFish’s reviewed app has nine base animations with effects such as lightning and twinkle that can be layered onto them.
TruLight’s app has 144-plus motion patterns, density control, and an animated house preview. You can view a pattern on the sample roofline before applying it to the lights.
The video also discusses changes to JellyFish’s apps over time. Ask each dealer how updates and any future app transitions affect saved settings and access.
Frequently asked questions
Is JellyFish worth the higher controller price?
Compare a current quote and app demonstration. The April comparison identifies differences in white-light hardware, music sync, and controller price; the value of those differences depends on the features you want.
Can JellyFish do warm white?
The reviewed JellyFish fixture mixes white using RGB LEDs. TruLight has dedicated warm white LEDs. View both settings against an exterior similar to yours before deciding.
How do I compare permanent lighting companies fairly?
Ask for the fixture specification, wiring layout, itemized controller and accessory prices, and written warranty. Have each dealer demonstrate white light, zones, and any music or motion features you want.
Can I watch the full TruLight vs JellyFish video?
Yes. The full 30-minute side-by-side comparison is on our TruLight vs JellyFish comparison page. We cover hardware, LED chips, white light, controller pricing, music sync, app features, zoning, motion sensors, and build quality. Timestamps make it easy to jump to a specific section.
