How TruLight and Gemstone compare

How 48V and 12V affect installation

The video discusses power-feed intervals of about 50 to 70 lights for the Gemstone configuration and about 400 for TruLight. These figures depend on the equipment and installation. Ask for the wiring plan for your particular roofline.

Every power feed is one more connection in the install. Feeds can be concealed inside the track and do not necessarily require a visible box or hole at every interval. Compare brightness along the completed roofline as well as the wiring layout.

Which LED chip is better: WS2811 or UCS7604?

The comparison identifies UCS7604 RGBW control in TruLight and WS2811 control in the reviewed Gemstone fixture. Ask for the product specifications; a chip name alone does not establish fixture lifespan or output.

TruLight’s six-LED arrangement includes separate RGB and warm white LEDs. Gemstone’s reviewed fixture has a smaller warm white section within each of its three LEDs. Compare the available white settings on the actual fixtures.

Signal redundancy is another UCS7604 advantage. If one TruLight fixture fails, the chip reroutes signal around it and the rest of the line keeps working. On WS2811, if one light fails the signal stops at that point and everything downstream goes dark until a tech gets up there.

Does Gemstone have true white light?

Yes. The Gemstone fixture reviewed here has warm white sections described as “quarter lights.” TruLight uses three full dedicated warm white LEDs alongside three RGB LEDs. The video compares their white-light output.

White light may be the setting you use for ordinary evenings. Look at it against your stone, stucco, or siding and check whether you like its appearance at the brightness you expect to use.

Build quality in the video demonstrations

The video shows a wire being pulled from the Gemstone fixture by hand. It also discusses physical demonstrations involving TruLight housings. These examples show the tested samples; they are not standardized durability or lifespan tests.

Both systems use aluminum track. Ask about the fixture’s outdoor ratings, connections, and warranty. The LED-hour figures in the comparison should not be read as promises that every component will last 27 or 54 years.

App and features: where TruLight pulls ahead the most

The reviewed TruLight app offers 144-plus motion patterns compared with Gemstone’s 27. Both allow direction, speed, and brightness adjustments. TruLight’s demonstrated controls also include pattern density and a background color.

TruLight previews a chosen pattern on a sample house in the app. The reviewed Gemstone app lists pattern names. Try choosing and changing a scene in each app to judge the difference.

TruLight’s independent zones can display different scenes at once, such as a holiday pattern in front and warm white at the patio. Motion sensors can be assigned to zones. Ask the Gemstone dealer to demonstrate its current grouping and zone controls for comparison.
